About the event

Advanced Care Plan Workshop

The Advanced Care Plan Workshop at The Marsh-Minnetonka is an offering designed to empower individuals and families to make informed decisions about their healthcare preferences, particularly in end-of-life situations. This workshop provides a supportive environment where participants can explore their values, beliefs, and wishes regarding medical treatment and care as they approach the end of life.

Importance of Advanced Care Planning

Advanced care planning is crucial for several reasons:

  • Clarity of Wishes: It ensures that individuals' healthcare preferences are clearly articulated and documented, reducing confusion for loved ones and healthcare providers.

  • Respect for Autonomy: It honors the individual's right to make decisions about their own body and treatment, ensuring their values are respected.

  • Relief for Families: It alleviates the emotional burden on family members during difficult times by providing them with guidance on what their loved one would want.

  • Improved Quality of Care: It leads to more personalized and appropriate medical care that aligns with the individual's wishes, enhancing their quality of life.

Exploring Wishes at End of Life

During the workshop, we will engage in meaningful discussions and activities that focus on:

  • Identifying Values: Participants will reflect on what matters most to them in life and how those values influence their healthcare choices.

  • Discussing Scenarios: We will explore various medical scenarios that can occur at the end of life, helping individuals consider their responses and preferences in those situations.

  • Creating Advance Directives: Participants will learn how to create advance directives, including living wills and healthcare proxies, to ensure their wishes are legally recognized.

  • Communicating with Loved Ones: Emphasis will be placed on the importance of discussing these wishes with family members and healthcare providers to ensure everyone is on the same page.

By the end of the workshop, participants will leave with a clearer understanding of their end-of-life preferences and the tools necessary to communicate and a completed document those wishes effectively. Join us in this essential conversation about planning for the future and ensuring that your voice is heard when it matters most.
